Hospital care in Málaga: common questions

Practical information for international patients using urgent, specialist or coordinated hospital care.

Urgent care & arrival

Urgent care & arrival

Where can I find an English-speaking emergency room in Málaga?

Costa Medical Services coordinates international patients accessing the 24-hour urgent-care departments at Hospital Quirónsalud Málaga, with English-speaking support available through the pathway.

Is the emergency department open 24 hours?

Yes. Adult urgent care is available 24 hours a day, and dedicated paediatric and obstetric-gynaecological urgent pathways are also available.

Which urgent-care department should I use?

Choose the route that best matches the patient: adult, paediatric, or women’s and gynaecology. The hospital clinical team makes the final assessment and directs care on arrival.

Can I pre-alert the hospital before travelling?

Yes. Complete the Rapid Arrival form before leaving so the hospital and Costa Medical Services coordination teams receive the essential information in advance.

Does a pre-alert guarantee faster medical treatment?

No. Clinical priority is always based on medical need. The pre-alert can help avoid preventable administrative delays and makes the coordination team aware that you are on the way.

Your Rapid Arrival pre-alert

Your Rapid Arrival pre-alert

Will I get the exact hospital entrance before I submit?

The exact urgent-care entrance, map and directions are displayed after the Rapid Arrival pre-alert has been submitted successfully.

Can I show the arrival pass on my phone?

Yes. After successful submission you receive a branded Rapid Arrival Pass that can be shown on your phone, downloaded as an image, or printed.

What happens if the patient is under 18?

The Rapid Arrival form asks for the parent or guardian’s full name and relationship to the child. Additional identity information is requested where relevant.

Why do Nordic patients see a personal-number field?

For patients from Sweden, Norway, Denmark or Finland, the form asks for the national personal identity number used for identification. Other nationalities are offered an optional passport-number field.

What if I do not know my insurance details?

You can still submit the pre-alert. Insurance company and policy number fields are optional when the information is not immediately available.

Insurance & other care

Insurance & other care

Can international travel insurance be used?

International insurance can often be coordinated, subject to the patient’s policy and insurer authorisation. The hospital may request payment arrangements while authorisation is being confirmed.

Can I attend as a private self-paying patient?

Yes. Patients without applicable insurance can attend privately under the hospital’s payment process.

Can Costa Medical Services arrange a specialist appointment?

Yes. Use the Specialists section for planned in-person consultations and hospital specialist appointments rather than the urgent pre-alert pathway.

What if I need a general doctor but not hospital urgent care?

For non-emergency problems, Costa Medical Services offers English-speaking telephone and video consultations with a family doctor.

What should I do in a life-threatening emergency?

Call 112 immediately. The Rapid Arrival pathway does not replace the Spanish emergency services for life-threatening situations.
