How to use a Wegovy pen: a practical weekly guide

Before the first administration
Confirm the name, concentration, date, appearance of the solution and the presentation you were given. The European Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC) includes different devices; That’s why a generic internet video may not match your pen.
Step by step administration
The injection is administered under the skin in the abdomen, thigh or upper arm, following the instructions on the device. It is advisable to alternate areas and avoid irritated, injured or hardened skin. If another person administers into the arm, they should follow the indicated technique.
A single-dose presentation should not be reused or attempts should be made to extract remains. In multidose pens, they are not stored with the needle attached and are never shared.
Progressive dosage and tolerance
European information establishes a gradual increase over several weeks to reduce digestive discomfort. If significant adverse effects appear, the correct response is not to “tough it out” or jump to the next step on your own. You have to talk to the professional who indicated it.
If you vomit or have severe diarrhea
Fluid loss can cause dehydration. Maintain hydration if you can and ask for an evaluation if the symptoms are persistent, if you cannot tolerate fluids, you urinate little or there is intense pain.
Calendar and storage
Wegovy is used once a week. The way to act in case of forgetfulness and the conditions outside the refrigerator depend on the presentation and appear in the leaflet. Do not freeze the medication, protect it from light, and do not use it if the solution does not look as described.
For travel or schedule changes, plan ahead. Bring the box or documentation and confirm the transportation rules. Checked luggage may reach inappropriate temperatures.
