Summary and conclusions

The essentials in less than a minute

  • Eating much less does not always mean eating better; With less appetite the importance of choosing nutritious foods increases.
  • Sufficient protein, plant foods, fiber, hydration, and tolerable portions help sustain the plan.
  • Very large or fatty meals can worsen nausea in some people.
  • The regimen should be adapted if there is diabetes, kidney disease, pregnancy, eating disorder or other clinical need.

The medicine does not design the diet

GLP-1-related treatments can reduce appetite and intake, but do not guarantee sufficient protein, vitamins, fiber, or hydration. When total volume decreases, each choice counts more.

AESAN’s NAOS strategy promotes a varied, balanced and moderate diet along with physical activity. During treatment, this principle is maintained, with adjustments according to tolerance and needs.

Build a useful plate

A flexible structure for main meals
Component Examples Objective
Vegetables and vegetables Cooked or raw according to tolerance Fiber, micronutrients and volume
Protein Fish, eggs, legumes, dairy products, lean meats Help preserve tissue and satiety
Quality hydrate Potato, rice, oatmeal, whole wheat bread Energy and adhesion
Fats Olive oil, nuts Nutritional quality in tolerable quantities

It is not necessary to turn each dish into an exact formula. The employer must be able to maintain and respect culture, budget, schedules and preferences.

If there is nausea, reflux or fullness

Smaller, slower meals
Avoid lying down right after
Drink regularly in sips
Record foods that worsen symptoms

Very fatty, large or fast meals may be worse tolerated. If there is repeated vomiting, inability to hydrate, severe pain or signs of dehydration, you should consult.

Preserve health, not just lower a number

Stall speed should not become a competition. An adequate plan looks at energy, strength, digestion, sleep, blood tests when appropriate, and relationship with food. Excessively rapid weight loss may be a signal to review intake and dosage.

Individual attention

People with kidney disease, treated diabetes, pregnancy, a history of eating disorders or special nutritional needs should receive adapted guidance.
