How to use Mounjaro KwikPen: a practical safety guide
Practical guide to Mounjaro KwikPen, weekly administration, four doses, storage and monitoring.
The essentials in less than a minute
- Mounjaro contains tirzepatide and is used once a week as prescribed.
- The multi-dose KwikPen contains four doses; The additional volume is for priming and does not constitute a fifth dose.
- The dose is increased progressively when appropriate, not automatically every week.
- Each administration requires a new needle, correct technique, and a record of the day.
What does the KwikPen contain?
European information describes the KwikPen as a multidose pen with four doses. Liquid may remain after the fourth administration, but attempting to inject it would result in an incomplete dose. It should not be drawn up with a syringe or used as a “fifth dose.”
Preparation and administration
Before each use check the label, the appearance of the liquid, the condition of the pen and the date. Place a new compatible needle and prime as indicated in the instructions. The injection is subcutaneous in the abdomen, thigh, or back of the arm if administered by another person.
Dose increase
The initial dose and increases are defined in the Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC). Increases are made after a minimum period at the current dose and only when appropriate. Digestive tolerance, goals, other diabetes treatments, and clinical response influence follow-up.
Do not adjust the dose by comparison
Just because someone else uses a higher dose does not mean that that dose is right for you. Nor should it be accelerated to “lose faster.”
storage and frequent problems
The KwikPen is kept refrigerated before use and, once started, European information establishes a period of use and a maximum temperature. It should be kept protected from light, not frozen and discarded at the end of the indicated period even if there is liquid left.
| Error | What to do |
|---|---|
| Store with the needle attached | Remove the needle after each use following the instructions. |
| Try to use the leftover liquid | Throw away the pen after four doses. |
| Share the pen | Never share, even changing the needle. |
| Duplicate after forgetting | Apply the official forgotten dose rule. |
