What Mounjaro is
Mounjaro contains tirzepatide. The European Medicines Agency authorises it, among other uses, for weight management in adults meeting specific BMI and health criteria, alongside diet and physical activity. It requires a prescription.
Before prescribing
The doctor reviews weight and BMI, related conditions, medical history, current medicines, possible risks and preferences. A prescription cannot be promised before that assessment. The plan and any dose changes are decided during follow-up.
How the service works
Book an online appointment, speak with a doctor by phone or video and, if prescribing is appropriate, receive an electronic prescription. You can then ask a pharmacy about stock and obtain the medicine there. The pharmacy charge is separate from the consultation fee.
Follow-up and expectations
Response and tolerability differ between people. A review covers weight-loss pace, side effects and goals. Once a dose is stable, the doctor and patient may agree a different review interval when clinically appropriate.
Where Mounjaro fits
Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, a peptide medicine that activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors. In the EU it has authorised uses for type 2 diabetes and weight management in people who meet the clinical criteria. A prescription is a clinical decision, not a shopping step. The doctor considers medical history, other treatments, possible adverse effects and follow-up.
A useful head-to-head study compared the maximum tolerated doses of tirzepatide and weekly semaglutide injection in 751 adults with obesity without diabetes. At 72 weeks, the average weight changes were 20.2% and 13.7%, respectively. This was an open-label trial in a defined population. It does not compare Mounjaro with oral Wegovy, and it cannot predict a specific patient’s result.

Before going to a pharmacy
- Have the exact medicine, strength and supply route confirmed by your prescriber.
- Check stock and the current pharmacy price with a licensed pharmacy; availability may vary.
- Avoid websites offering prescription injections without a valid prescription. Spanish authorities warn about illegal GLP-1 products online.

Calculate your percentage weight change
This is a mathematical measure of your own change. It does not predict a medicine’s effect or replace clinical follow-up.What a follow-up should cover
The first prescription is only the start of the pathway. The prescriber should agree how symptoms, weight change and tolerability will be reviewed as the dose changes. Gastrointestinal effects such as nausea, diarrhoea or constipation are common in the product information. If symptoms are persistent or severe, the patient should seek advice rather than adjusting the medicine independently. Other medicines and medical conditions can change the plan.
When comparing a clinical service, ask who will review you, how quickly an unexpected problem is handled, what each consultation costs and whether the advertised medicine price is separate. A higher percentage in a trial is not a reason to choose a medicine without considering your history and preferences. The doctor may recommend a different authorised option, postpone treatment or decide no weight-loss medicine is suitable.
Common questions
Does booking guarantee a prescription?
No. A prescription depends on the doctor deciding treatment is indicated and safe.
Do I buy Mounjaro from Costa?
Costa provides medical consultation. The medicine is obtained and paid for separately at a pharmacy.
Will I need follow-up?
Yes. Review frequency and dose decisions depend on each patient’s response and tolerability.
