The medical consultation
Costa Medical Services charges €39 per consultation. This covers assessment and a clinical decision about whether treatment is indicated; it is neither a medicine purchase nor a guaranteed prescription. If monthly reviews are needed while the dose changes, each consultation has the same fee.
When the plan is stable
If the patient tolerates the medicine, is satisfied with the pace of weight loss and has further months of treatment ahead, doctor and patient may agree reviews every two months and a prescription covering that period. In that case, a €39 consultation every two months averages €19.50 per month. This is not a monthly tariff and does not apply automatically to everyone.
The medicine at a pharmacy
The pharmacy charges separately for the medicine. Prices depend on presentation and can change; before relying on a published figure, confirm the current price and stock of the specific strength with a pharmacy. A prescription is issued only when the doctor considers treatment suitable.
What to compare between services
Check the initial assessment fee, the charge for each review, how often patients are actually reviewed and whether an advertised figure includes the medicine. It also helps to understand how the prescription is delivered and where it can be dispensed.
Build a complete budget, not just a headline price
There are two separate transactions: Costa charges for medical consultation and follow-up, and a pharmacy charges for the prescribed medicine. A €39 consultation is not a €39 medicine pack. The exact pharmacy price depends on product, presentation and date; ask a pharmacy for a current quote rather than assuming an online figure is still correct.
Calculate the monthly consultation equivalent
Each consultation costs €39. A two-month interval requires agreement between doctor and patient. Pharmacy medicine costs are separate. For example, over six months, six monthly €39 consultations total €234. If a doctor and patient agree a review every two months for a stable period, three €39 consultations over six months total €117. That illustration excludes medicine and does not imply everyone will qualify for the longer interval. A doctor considers tolerability, rate and amount of weight loss, and time remaining on treatment.
Questions that reveal the real cost
- Does the advertised amount include the first clinical assessment?
- Are follow-up consultations charged separately, and at what frequency?
- Is the medicine price included, or paid at the pharmacy?
- What happens if a dose adjustment or side effect requires an earlier review?
Why the lowest monthly figure is conditional
At the beginning, or while a dose is being adjusted, monthly review may be appropriate. A doctor may agree a two-month prescription and review interval later when weight loss and its pace are satisfactory, the medicine is well tolerated, and there are several months of treatment ahead. The patient’s preference matters, but the clinician must also judge it safe and suitable. If circumstances change, the interval may shorten again.
That is why “from €19.50 per month” means the arithmetic average of one €39 consultation every two months in an agreed stable phase. It is not a €19.50 appointment, a fixed subscription or a guarantee that care will always cost that amount. Keep medicine spending in a separate line of your budget.
Common questions
Is €19.50 the consultation price?
No. A consultation costs €39. The €19.50 figure is only the monthly average when a consultation every two months is agreed.
Is the medicine included?
No. The medicine is paid for separately at a pharmacy.
Does everyone move to two-month reviews?
No. It depends on a stable plan, tolerability and a decision shared with the doctor.
