Will my insurance cover the cost?

In many cases, yes. The hospital normally contacts your insurer directly to request a guarantee of payment.

If approval arrives quickly, you will usually not need to pay anything upfront. If the insurer is slower to respond, a temporary deposit may sometimes be taken.

If you have insurance

The hospital usually seeks insurer approval directly before or during admission.

If the insurer is delayed

A deposit may be taken temporarily, then refunded according to the hospital process if cover is confirmed.

If you do not have insurance

You can still attend privately and pay directly for the consultation and any additional treatment.

Online consultations work differently

For telemedicine, insurers do not usually issue a guarantee of payment in advance. Instead, you normally pay for the consultation directly, receive your receipt automatically, and then claim reimbursement later if your policy allows it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see a doctor in person through Costa Medical Services in Spain?
Yes. We can help coordinate access to collaborating hospitals and medical centres across mainland Spain.
Do I always need to book an online consultation first?
No. This page is for people who want to see a doctor in person. However, many common problems can still be managed faster and more simply by phone or video consultation first.
Can you arrange blood tests, scans or specialist appointments?
Yes. Where clinically appropriate, we can help coordinate blood tests, urine tests, radiology, scans and specialist appointments.
Do you cover the Balearic Islands or Canary Islands on this page?
No. This page is for mainland Spain only. If you are on the islands, an online consultation is usually the best first step.
Can you tell me the exact price before I go?
Usually not with full accuracy, because prices depend on the hospital, city, consultation type, and whether any tests, scans or specialist treatment are needed. Hospitals normally explain charges before additional tests proceed.
What number do I call in a life-threatening emergency in Spain?
Call 112 immediately for life-threatening emergencies. For serious urgent care that is not clearly life-threatening, call (+34) 622 094 554.
