Tests and diagnosis

Treatment and follow-up

Antivirals can shorten or alleviate outbreaks and, in selected cases, be used as suppressive treatment. The choice depends on the frequency, severity, pregnancy and clinical situation.

When to seek prompt care

Check quickly if it is the first intense episode, if there is pregnancy, difficulty urinating, eye involvement, immunosuppression or pain that is difficult to control.
