Tests and diagnosis
Diagnosis requires tests, usually blood tests and, in specific situations, a sample of the lesion. The date of exposure and previous treatments help interpret the result.
Treatment and follow-up
Syphilis is cured with appropriate antibiotics, but the regimen and follow-up depend on the phase, pregnancy, and possible neurological involvement. Couples should receive counseling and testing.
When to seek prompt care
Request urgent attention for neurological or visual alterations, pregnancy with suspected syphilis, sudden hearing loss or poor general condition.
